After spending sixth grade with dad and Christine, I've decided to move back in with my mom this year. Although I miss dad and Christine and my brothers and sister, it's good to be back with my mom and Brittany. And we've moved back in with Brian now so I'm back at my old school again. In fact mom and Brian are going to get married. So I'm pretty excited about that.

Here is my school. It was built in 1936.
Our school colors are blue and gold and our mascot is the wolves.
Academic Standards (Opens in a new window)
Answers to all of your questions regarding wisconsin state academic standards.
For many years, Wisconsin students have performed well, often ranking among the top three states in the nation. In 1998, Wisconsin adopted new academic standards to push school and students to do even better.
Wisconsin’s Academic Standards define what Wisconsin students in grades four, eight, and twelve should know and be able to do in the following subject areas:
Reading
Language
Writing
Mathematics
Science
Social Studies
Standards have also been developed for the non-academic disciplines such as music, art, physical education, technology education, family and consumer education, business education, and foreign language.
These standards were approved by the Wisconsin Legislature and adopted by the Board of Education. Printed copies of the standards are available at every school. The standards are also posted in their entirety on the Department of Public Instruction’s web site.
What is a standardized test? What is a standardized test? Almost every adult has school-days memories of the Iowa test - or something similar - marked by pages and pages of multiple choice questions, a good supply of sharpened No. 2 pencils, and instructions to carefully blacken the circle which corresponded to each correct answer. This type of test is standardized, meaning it is developed through a sophisticated norming process. It measures a local student's academic achievement as compared to same-grade peers around the state and nation. How have Wisconsin's standardized tests changed in recent years? In years past, students in grades 4, 8, and 10 took an annual state-level achievement test called the Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS) test. Children in grade three took the Third Grade Reading Test. These familiar tests, now known as the Terra Nova tests and the Wisconsin Reading Comprehension Exam, have been rewritten to measure Wisconsin's academic standards, adopted in 1998. Some test questions continue the age-old focus on basic facts and skills. A greater proportion of questions have shifted towards more complex, multi-step problems. These problems require more sophisticated thinking and problem-solving. Does Manitowoc use any standardized tests not required by the state DPI? To give a more complete picture of achievement across the grade levels, the school district supplements the required (grade 3, 4, 8, and 10) tests by giving similar tests to grades 2 and 6. These supplemental tests are purchased from the same company (McGraw-Hill) which supplies the required WSAS exams. What does a standardized WSAS score say about a student's achievement? WSAS test scores are reported in four categories: advanced, proficient, basic, or minimal performance. These categories identify students who have mastered the Wisconsin academic standards for their grade level and red-flag those who need additional assistance. According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, the goal over time is to have all students perform in the proficient or advanced categories. The DPI cautions that this goal may be unrealistic for students who have not mastered English or who have severe cognitive disabilities.
